Patricia Freres – Lyrical Dramatic Soprano

Patricia Freres is a Luxembourgish soprano with an unusually expressive presence, emotional intensity, and brings a natural dramatic impulse into her vocal artistry.

Born in Esch/Alzette in Luxembourg, dance training at the Académie de Danse Germaine Damar, studied at the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg.

Since then, Patricia Freres has developed a wide vocal and stylistic range, spanning from classical-romantic opera to contemporary experimental music theatre, supported by stagecraft. Song cycles such as Robert Schumann’s Frauenliebe und Leben and a staging of the Gretchen Tragedy with music by Wolf, Gounod, Schumann, and Ritter.

In addition to her music-theatrical projects, Patricia Freres maintains a lively concert career and regularly impresses with her expressive voice, which convinces audiences and critics alike.

Patricia Freres has sung several leading roles, including Pamina in The Magic Flute by W.A. Mozart, Gretel and later the Mother in Hansel and Gretel by E. Humperdinck. At the Greek Opera Festival 2016 in Thessaloniki, she appeared as Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly by G. Puccini. She sang the role of Manon in G. Puccini’s opera of the same name for the first time in 2015 in the “Opera Pasticcio” series with the Grammy-nominated chamber ensemble of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and reprised it in 2018. In 2017 and 2018, she took on the role of Jeanne d’Arc. In August 2018, she sang the role of Micaëla in Carmen by G. Bizet under the baton of Hans-Friedrich Härle with the Rhein-Main Philharmonic Frankfurt.

In October 2018, she sang the role of Mimì in La Bohème by G. Puccini under the direction of Byron Fidetzis with the Philharmonia Orchestra Athens in the concert hall of Thessaloniki.

At the end of 2018, she also performed Brasileiras No. 5 by H. Villa-Lobos with the Camerata of the Orchestra Solistes Européens Luxembourgeois at the Philharmonie Luxembourg.

At the Neuberger Piano and Chamber Music Festival in mid-August, the Hanauer Anzeiger wrote about her:
“…and the brilliant Luxembourgish soprano Patricia Freres, with her natural joy and playfulness, contributed to the success of the concerts…”

Patricia Freres sang the title role of Lisa in Franz Lehár’s operetta The Land of Smiles in August 2022 with Opera Classica Europa under the baton of Hans Friedrich Härle at Schloss Braunfels.

In 2025, Patricia Freres gave successful concerts in Luxembourg and will perform in Germany in September.
