Early Milestones
Performance at the Théâtre National: Margarethe singt
Dr. Frank Hoffmann, Artistic Director, Théâtre National du Luxembourg
Die wunderbare Musik von Gounod, Schubert, Hugo Wolf und Hans Martin Ritter erlebte in ihrer emotionalen Darstellung eine szenisch kongeniale und stimmlich überzeugende Umsetzung.“ “The first part of the evening, following Schumann’s song cycle Frauenliebe und Leben, already showed the interesting and successful attempt to fill Schumann’s songs with theatrical life.
But especially in the second part, the evening became a truly remarkable experience. Patricia Freres sings and narrates as Margarethe, presenting Goethe’s Gretchen tragedy as a dramaturgically skilful sequence of songs. The wonderful music of Gounod, Schubert, Hugo Wolf, and Hans Martin Ritter found in her emotional interpretation a scenically congenial and vocally convincing realization.”
